CCG Welcomes New PhD Student Lorenzo Povolo
Lorenzo Povolo joined the Copenhagen Center for Glycomics on 1 December 2020. Lorenzo comes to us from Italy and is now a PhD student in Adnan Halim's group.
Lorenzo earned his Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Trento, Italy, He then moved to Denmark and obtained his Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Copenhagen. During his master's thesis project, Lorenzo used proteomics and bioinformatics tools to study a crucial factor involved in replication stress and DNA damage repair.
Lorenzo’s PhD research at CCG will combine precise genetic engineering, mass spectrometry, and data science to dissect the functional consequences of O-Mannosylation (O-Man) in eukaryotic systems, and more specifically, to explore how (O-Man) glycans shape protein-protein and cell-cell interaction networks. Lorenzo said that he believes that this unique approach will enable groundbreaking discoveries relevant to neurological disorders and provide novel insight into the molecular roles of sugars during development.
